Hair illustrations in a hair salon
Hair Lines was a bespoke exhibition of illustrations developed from my daily sketches on my commute and from conversations while having my hair done at Beaucatcher salon in Stoke Newington.
Hair is one of the things that expresses London in all its human variety: colourful, subtle, modern, vintage, sculptural, practical, point of difference or badge of belonging.
Spaces in a salon are above and around styling stations and basins. And sitting in a hair salon involves some unusual sightlines – glimpses in mirrors, odd angles and if you’re a glasses-wearer like me, nothing entirely in focus.
So I created an unusually bold drawing style for the exhibition and designed its image formats and layout specifically for the site.
The exhibition was accompanied by a folding, zine-format A7 mini catalogue.
