I’ve taken to creeping up on people looking at my piece, “A modest detail” and saying “It’s the biggest drawing I’ve ever done!”…
At 1.5m square, it's also been the biggest challenge in my three-month artist residency at Tower Gallery – in its sheer size and in working out how to keep the freshness of my sketchbook work at scale.
My project Reading the Building has two parts: finding out more about the building through research and exploring building through drawing it.
The two pieces on show at the Tower Gallery September Open exhibition represent the discovery and the technical experimentation in the project; the decoration and the unsung details. Both pieces are for sale: to enquire, get in touch.
If you visit the show, there are bookmark format postcards (Reading – how could I not?) on sale in the postcard rack. You might even spot me at work in the residency studio.
Book for my talk on my research into the design and crafts of the building and find out more about my sketch tour on the Open House website.
Tower Gallery September Open, East Tower, Memorial Community Church, 395 Barking Rad, London E13, Fridays to Sundays 3pm – 7pm from 11 September to 4 October 2026.
