In week 11, the studio has been busy. My Tower Gallery residency days have also been open days for Open House and the September Open exhibition.
So to make it easy to pause and chat with visitors, I’ve been stitching into my three textile pieces. These trace the movement of window and railing shadows in the tower over a morning. The fabric is scrap from interiors firms, sourced from a Yodomo creative reuse sale.
In the quiet of a morning, I’ve been tempted out into the stairwell to sketch down into the exhibition. The building always has something new to show me… I’ve noticed a name cast into the steelwork below a flight of stairs. It’s now in my talk on 18 September about my research into the design and crafts in the building.
And I’ve used scrap paper from my work to make sketchbooks for anyone who drops in for my sketch tour on 19 September without their own materials. In contrast with my large-scale drawing experiments, the one I’ve shown here is challengingly tiny.
