Ooh, look, a bird!

I’m curious. So I like to understand what I’m designing and the visual language it should be in. I read the copy. I delve into the subject matter. In many ways, it’s the most interesting bit of a project.

For me, it’s important to do some of that away from a screen. Sitting with printouts, books and magazines slows the process down and shows me approaches I might take that I wouldn’t otherwise see.

That’s good for the relevance and context of design concepts. It’s not without its distractions, though. Looking down at the shadow of my drawing hand, I thought, “Ooh, look, a bird!”

Still, in a world where it’s easy to ‘do’, here’s to thinking time.
