Artist Angie Clarke introduced me to Beaucatcher salon in Stoke Newington, Hackney. Beaucatcher gave me my first exhibition, my first illustrated shop window and orchestrated A Very Stokey Christmas, a local shops initiative, which I illustrated. Through that, I worked with Karen at homeware shop Know & Love – who won my competition to guess where I had drawn myself into the illustration. Karen’s prize was an illustration of her shop, which is now on tea towels, with donations going to nearby Clissold Park’s users’ group. I call it circular – but it’s really a line of community, along one street of small independent businesses doing their thing, their way.
