On the face of it, I have three strands of work: design, creative direction and sketch illustration. But I bring my design knowledge to illustration formats and materials and my reportage eye to my work on communication design and branding.
Here, two strands of my work are drawn together – literally – in two sketches in two upcoming exhibitions, both opening on 31 August 2024:
Wicked Changes IV, in Hackney Wick, explores how East London artists respond to current social and urban challenges.
In A slow dance of cranes, I’ve drawn with a sewing machine on cloth from Yodomo’s textile reuse hub to illustrate the complexity of promise, new things and newer things that’s in local development.

Rock Paper Scissors is part 2 of Town House Open at Town House Spitalfields, featuring drawings, mixed media and original prints.
In this, my live sketch Drawing my giants while listening to the storm roll in is drawn on the cover of a handed-down book of watercolour paper – appropriately for the natural cycles in plants and gardens. But I also like the democracy, unpredictability and lack of pressure in drawing on waste. It’s something I often design in to sketch activities, particularly with adults who haven’t drawn in a while.
