Designing for visitors

Event graphics for Bowen Craggs...

Bowen Craggs has been a speaker and a supporting sponsor at The Conference Board event Corporate Communications: Driving the Business Forward in New York. My brief has been to design a banner, tablecloth and an item to take away. On the face of it, that’s straightforward.

Technically, it is – with an eye on brand consistency and typographic elegance.

But before we’ve done anything, I’ve asked about people. How will they move around the space? How busy will it be? How far away will they be? For how long do we have their attention?

I’ve asked about production. Whether everything will be from one supplier or split across more companies; what’s needed for each item; the production lead times; whether there are artwork templates.

I’ve thought about the particular quirks of each item’s scale and printing method, to work out where colours should vary to avoid inconsistency and what kinds of graphic will work best for each item.

Bringing knowledge and skills together helps me to work in a way that’s consistent with the quality at the heart of the work that Bowen Craggs does. It’s all the more important when I’m working at a distance, with an event deadline.
