A bouquet of experiments

In the Valentine’s month episode of Studio Snack, a food podcast about design with creative collaborator Narcis Sauleda, we’ve delved into the story of a local heart-shaped sweet, looked at some symbol history, chatted with Leticia Credidio in Barcelona about being taught by the designer who created the iconic ‘I love New York’ logo – and there’s been a bouquet of creative experiments.

In times that are not all hearts and flowers, I’ve made a rose for a troubled world, paper sculpture from the day’s news.

There’s a rose in my garden with heart-shaped petals so I’ve explored flat graphics made from a modified heart symbol, with the variations of colour I’ve noticed through drawing.

As I had the hearts to hand, I made a repeat – and noticed that the negative spaces, the spaces between, were kite-shaped. So one of those has taken flight.

And in the latest part of our year-long sound experiment, after playing with an online sound drawing tool, I’ve traced a cookie cutter instead… (read more on the Studio Snack website).
