An edible finish line

Illustration of an imaginary edible finish line of Welsh cakes

This wasn’t the plan.

For the Summer episode of Studio Snack, a food podcast about design that I make with former studio-mate Narcis Sauleda, our experiment has been to create a half-time snack for an obscure sport. I started by redesigning the brief, to make an imaginary edible finish line for the World Bog Snorkelling Championships in Llanwrtyd Wells. It's an event I’ve long wanted to see but never been to.

My plan was: make Welsh cakes with holes in the middle for string; photograph them; eat them. (I like to be tidy, in both senses…) But somehow, I managed to make something inedible and unsightly. So I illustrated my finish line instead.

It's taken years of practice to take adapting ideas in my stride. And personal projects keep those creative muscles in trim. Useless though they’d be for bog snorkelling…
