In praise of rubbish sketchbooks

Rubbish sketchbooks – a surprise hit in a trio of activities for Cody Dock’s Lea Way Celebration, part of Open House and Totally Thames...

Made from waste and originally an approachable add-on to a sketch walk (nobody need worry about doing a bad drawing on materials destined for recycling) they took off in their own right. Examples to take away proved popular, a community garden organiser took away an idea for seed collecting in a book with a bound-in envelope, and Cody Dock provided instructions and materials for making.

Both activities were related to Cody Dock’s community mural, started at its Summer Live event and continuing at this one, gathering in stories to draw and encouraging people to add their own. Read more about that here.
