Binding sketchbooks. It's very Zen. It’s useful (I get through sketchbooks at a rate that's been described as voracious). And I love a blank sheet of paper.
But is it a new leaf? Well, yes and no. I make my sketchbooks from offcuts, dummies and surplus swatches and materials. And in that new purpose lies a metaphor…
Some of my most interesting work over the past year has been at the intersections between my work in design, creative direction, sketching and speaking, thanks to people who’ve spotted unusual ways in which I might be of value.
I’ve brought an overview to design work. I’ve brought format and materials knowledge from design to live sketching. I’ve brought observational skills from sketching to illustration. I’ve brought drawing and curiosity to sketch engagement, talks and podcasts. And my creative wiring has been used for scoping programmes.
Thank you to my adventurous clients and collaborators. And at the turn of the year, here’s to possibility!
