Illustrating illustration

A montage of Lydia Thornley's explanatory, reportage, design thinking, engagement, event and investigative illustrations

A by-product of writing a bio or summary information is the chance to wrangle the question I’ve often asked branding clients: “In one sentence, what do you do?”.

On the face of it, my work has got more complicated as I’ve gone along. As I’ve gathered knowledge, graphic design has grown to include creative direction and speaking. And the thinking on paper that was a hidden part of my practice has become part of my practice in its own right.

Pulling together images and a short summary for The Illustrators’ Fair online showcase reminded me that it all joins up. That’s how I get to work with clients who are as interested in how I think and how I communicate as they are in what I do.

I bring format knowledge to live sketching, a layout eye to sketch illustration, workings-out to sketching for design thinking, my showing-off gene to engagement and the curiosity in all of my work to reportage and investigative drawing.

If you have a project or event where that might be interesting, contact me for a chat.
